As a recent law school applicant, Scott experienced how expensive the law school application process was. The cost of applying became a financial burden and source of stress for her and as she thought of her own struggles, she realized that other Black women probably faced such barriers on their journey as well. She realized how costly it was to prepare for and take the LSAT and how inaccessible that made applying to law school feel to a first-generation college graduate, she was also disappointed to learn how few attorneys like her exist in America, where only 5% of lawyers are Black and only 2% are Black women. Make it stand out The Legally BLK Fund is designed to provide financial support to young Black women aspiring to apply to law school and become attorneys. Only about 2% of attorneys in the United States are Black women. This fund seeks to reduce some of the financial barriers to accessing a legal education. We believe this is key to increasing representation in the legal field. This scholarship is intended to cover expenses associated with applying to law school or starting the first year of law school at an accredited law school in the United States and is available to Black women who attend the LSM x DAAP Law School Summit in Chicago, IL on August 10th-11th, in-person or virtually.
